Two more child grooming lawsuits were filed against Roblox, and one of them names Snap

The new complaints, from Oregon and Louisiana, join more than 150 filings against Roblox and adjacent platforms, most of them now consolidated into MDL 3166 in San Francisco.

The law firm Anapol Weiss has filed two more child grooming lawsuits against Roblox, and one of them also names Snap Inc., Snapchat's parent company. GamesBeat reported the filings on Monday.

The plaintiffs are from Tillamook County, Oregon, and Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. According to the firm, the Oregon plaintiff was eight years old when a predator approached her through a Roblox dress-up game, pushed her into what the complaint calls a false romantic relationship, and tried to get her to run away with him. He was never caught. The Louisiana plaintiff was 14 when, the firm says, a predator met her on Roblox, moved the conversation to Snapchat, sent her sexually explicit images and demanded photos of her.

Both complaints allege Roblox knew predators were operating on the platform while it marketed itself as safe for kids. None of that has been tested in court. These are allegations in civil filings, not findings.

This is not a one-off

The two cases land on a pile that has been growing for over a year. In December 2025, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation centralized roughly 80 child sexual exploitation cases against Roblox into MDL No. 3166, before Judge Richard Seeborg in the Northern District of California. Reuters reported the consolidation at the time. GamesBeat now puts the running total at more than 150 suits against Roblox and adjacent platforms including Discord and Snap.

State attorneys general have been filing too:

What Roblox says it has built

Roblox gave GamesBeat a statement: "Criminal behavior has no place on Roblox. We have robust protections in place that go beyond many other online platforms, including age checks for chat features designed to limit communication between adults and kids they don't know, and newly launched age-appropriate Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts for players under the age of 16."

The safeguards, as the company describes them:

  • Since January 2026, every user has to pass an age check to use chat. Roblox says it was the first major gaming platform to require this. Independent testing by the Age Check Certification Scheme put the system's accuracy within about 1.4 years for users under 18.
  • Chat does not allow users to send images or video.
  • Chat is not encrypted, which Roblox says is deliberate, so it can monitor for grooming signals and for attempts to move users off the platform.
  • Filters block under-16 users from sharing personal information by default, including social handles and links.
  • Roblox Kids and Roblox Select accounts tie content access, chat settings and parental controls to a player's checked age.

The part the filters do not cover

Read the complaints and the same shape keeps showing up. First contact happens on Roblox. Then the predator moves the kid to Snapchat or Discord, where the images actually get sent. Roblox has made that point itself, that there is a real difference between what a child can do inside Roblox and what happens once they leave it.

That is also why plaintiffs keep adding defendants. If the handoff between platforms is where the harm lands, suing one company only gets you part of the way. Whether Roblox's chat filters catch that handoff as reliably as Roblox says they do is the question MDL 3166 exists to answer, and the answer is going to come out of discovery, not press statements.

Roblox has not responded to the specific claims in these two complaints beyond the general statement above.
